Hepatology Calculators

Best calculators and predictive models in Hepatology and liver related disease.

GIHep.com seeks to give you the best calculators and predictive models in Hepatology and liver related disease. We will continue to add additional predictive models/calculators in order to aide with clinical decisions. Remember these are to be used in context of clinical presentation and do not represent recommendations for individual patient care.

If you have any questions or comments regarding the calculations pleas feel free to contact us. Please remember that these calculators are provided AS IS and any interpretation is left to the judgement of the practicing clinician.

  1. AST to ALT RatioThe AST to ALT ratio is a crude measure of fibrosis in patients with Hepatitis C.
  2. Child – Pugh ScoreThe Child-Pugh Score is a scoring system used to determine the prognosis with cirrhosis and need for liver transplantation.
  3. Fibrosis 4 Score : The Fibrosis 4 score is a non-invasive scoring system based on several laboratory tests that help to estimate the amount of scarring in the liver. This score has been studied in liver disease due to Hepatitis C and NASH.
  4. Lille Model : The Lille model is based on a composite score looking at survival in patients with ETOH hepatitis.
  5. Maddrey Discriminant Function : The Maddrey Discriminant Function is a calculation for patients with alcoholic hepatitis and stratifies them for risk of mortality and the use of steroids.
  6. Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) : The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) is a reliable measure of mortality risk in patients with end-stage liver disease. It is used as a disease severity index to help prioritize allocation of organs for transplant.
  7. Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) Sodium (Na) : The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) is a reliable measure of mortality risk in patients with end-stage liver disease. It is used as a disease severity index to help prioritize allocation of organs for transplant. The MELD Na adds the sodium to the calculation to better categorize patients with cirrhois with mortality.
  8. Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) Refit : The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) is a reliable measure of mortality risk in patients with end-stage liver disease. It is used as a disease severity index to help prioritize allocation of organs for transplant. The Refit model looks to optimize prediction of mortality with alteration of factors including change in allowable boundaries for labs.
  9. Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) Refit Sodium (Na) : The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) is a reliable measure of mortality risk in patients with end-stage liver disease. It is used as a disease severity index to help prioritize allocation of organs for transplant. The MELD Na adds the sodium to the calculation to better categorize patients with cirrhois with mortality. The MELD refit attempts to better model prediction of mortality.
  10. NAFLD Fibrosis Score : The NAFLD Fibrosis score is a non-invasive scoring system based on several laboratory tests that help to estimate the amount of scarring in the liver. This score has been studied in liver disease NAFLD only.
  11. R Factor : The R factor is used to assess the laboratories to assess if the liver injury seen is due to cholestatic or hepatocellular process.
  12. Serum Ascites Albumin GradientSAAG is the standard for defining presence of portal hypertension (does not differentiate cause) in patients with ascites.
  13. Simplified Scoring System for AIH : This is a simplified version of the original scoring system for AIH.
