GI Hep: Gastroenterology & Hepatology

Dr. Timothy Imler
Assistant Professor of Medicine; Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology; Indiana University. Research Scientist; Division of Biomedical Informatics; Regenstrief Institute.

I started GIHep in 2009 out of the frustration with lack of access for clinically relevant calculators on the Internet for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. As a Gastroenterology and combined Medical Informatics Fellow at Indiana University and the Regenstrief Institute I wanted to fill this need.

Currently GIHep is the largest resource for clinical (and research) calculations for Gastroenterology and Hepatology on the Internet

There have been numerous websites dating back for more than a decade to aide with clinical calculations, however those specific to our specialty were sorely lacking.

The resources that were available were widely dispersed and often inaccurate. We have sought to correct this discrepancy with highly targeted and specialty specific clinical decision aides.

Currently GIHep is the largest resource for clinical (and research) decision support calculations for Gastroenterology and Hepatology on the Internet and will continue to support this functionality going forward with increasing content. Use these cautiously within the proper clinical context.

Our goal is to continue to expand our resources to support the Gastroenterology and Hepatology community. We have continued to expand in our influence touching each continent and more than 100 countries worldwide (see images). We are used extensively within the academic community and have been mentioned at national conferences such as AASLD (The Liver Meeting), Digestive Disease Week, and in publications.
